Cybercriminals have taken malware to a new level with SparkCat, the first optical character recognition (OCR) Trojan stealer to slip past Apple’s App Store security. This sophisticated malware, also found on Google Play, steals sensitive information by scanning photos on users’ devices, posing a serious threat to cryptocurrency wallets and personal data.
Many smartphone users store important information in their photo galleries—documents, bank details, or even seed phrases for recovering cryptocurrency wallets. SparkCat exploits this habit by analyzing images, extracting valuable text, and sending it to attackers.
SparkCat-infected apps have so far been downloaded over 242,000 times.
